Let’s face it. Being a gentleman means trying our best to look good - and looking good follows a lot from feeling good.

There is no easy way to lose weight or tummy fat. Some of the most coveted physiques – body builders, fitness models, movie stars – have taken years of exercise to attain.

For some of us who are busier, have 9-5 jobs, families to look after and other commitments do not have the time for such a regimented exercise program.

Of course, nothing can take the place of a good exercise program to build a great body. But, by making small changes in our day to day lives we can certainly avoid the sugary, processed, fried and carb heavy foods that end up on our tummy.

Here are some tips were you can start losing fat by making small changes every day.

Start the day with a glass of water with a slice of lemon in it.

Lemon kick starts the liver which is will help cleanse the body. Your metabolism will be kick started as well. Although it is beneficial to drink this throughout the day, your liver will get an extra kick if it is taken first think in the morning.

Eat berries.

The darker, the better. Dark berries contain powerful antioxidants that cleanse the system and gives you a boost of energy as an added bonus.

Drink heaps of water.

8 glasses of water a day is a standard. Our bodies are 80% water. Water can help us feel fuller and helps to cleanse the body of junk. The more efficient our digestive system is, the more it will assist in getting rid of fat. Again, a boost of energy is an added bonus.

Swap white for whole grain

In our daily life, white bread, rice or pasta is a staple. Swap these for whole grain or gluten free. Whole grain foods are full of vitamins and antioxidants and as easier to digest. These include brown rice, whole wheat, whole oats, wholemeal bread and unsalted popcorn.

More fibre

Insoluble and soluble fibre is good for you. Soluble fibre helps slow down the absorption rate of sugar, insoluble fibre helps prevent constipation. There are many fibre powders on the market that can be mixed with water, coffee, cereal, etc. You can also get fibres from nuts, fruits, vegetables and beans.

Try some psyllium husks

Psyllium husks taken once daily can have a vast improvement on your digestive system. They work like an intestinal broom, cleaning and collecting matter in the digestive system, resulting in a full, effortless movement.

Eat more

Eating smaller, more frequent meals will fire up your metabolism. This is how bodybuilders eat. Avoid snacking on bad foods, instead pick up some fruit, nuts or yoghurt for small meals between the 3 main (small) ones.

Drink Green Tea

Green Tea contains powerful antioxidants that cleanse the body. As an added bonus, it helps to prevent cancer and lower cholesterol. Green tea also stimulates the metabolism providing energy, shedding excess water and burning body fat.

Choose protein rich foods

Eating out? Pick a fish, seafood, skinless chicken or turkey as your main. It helps you feel fuller for longer, and has a lot of valuable proteins to maintain muscle.

Eat tones of vegetables during meals

Vegetables are the ultimate guilt free meal. If, after your fish or chicken you still feel hungry, fill up on a plate of vegetables. The benefits are countless. Curbing your appetite with vegetables is the perfect guilt free way to diet.

Have sex

I can’t think of a better way to burn calories. Endorphins are an added bonus to the ultimate activity.

Yoghurt

Yoghurt is a low fat, tasty snack. Yoghurt contains cultures that help keep your insides clean and helps with nutrient absorption.

Take your time

It takes about 20 minutes for the stomach to register that it is full. Give your meals the time and enjoyment it deserves. By taking your time, you will notice exactly how little quantity of food it takes to feel ‘full.’

Stay away from soft drinks

Soft drinks are high in calories and sugar, promoting weight gain.

Have a big lunch

…But have a smaller dinner. Calories consumed during the day are much easier to burn than calories consumed at night.
